RIP Arturo Gatti

Posted by BadReligion Tue, 04 Aug 2009 10:31:00 GMT

For those of you who are not boxing fans or do not follow boxing, Arturo Gatti and exciting and class act fighter died this past weekend. Arturo Gatti may not have been the most technically sound and greatest fighter of his weight classes, however he was the most exciting and inspiring to watch and follow.

In my opinion all of Gatti's fights were thrilling, however most notably in my book are his trilogy of fights against Micky Ward. These two were appropriately labeled "Blood and Guts Warriors".

I will not turn this into a short novel since I completely lambasted the overbearing media coverage of a certain famous persons death. However, those people are all fans, just as I am a die hard fan of Arturo Gatti.

The one thing that I idolize Arturo Gatti as well as Micky Ward for more than any other attribute is they both have an unusual amount of respect for their fellow man. Its very hard to find folks with the camaraderie that exists within these two men and its even more rare in professional sports.

Arturo Gatti, sir, you will be greatly missed in the sport of boxing and by many others outside of the ring as well. Rest in peace.

MIA

Posted by BadReligion Thu, 19 Mar 2009 08:30:00 GMT

It would seem to be MIA again. Work is super busy and with warm weather on its way I have been working out more. I managed to put my heavy bag back up a couple weeks ago! Getting back on the bag is a really good feeling. Maybe if things die down at work soon I will make a trip to the gym in Akron assuming its still around.

I'm going to go write some code. I would love to go back and clean up some of the code I wrote for this site. It would probably be good for me to code on a recreational level tonight. Well whatever my eyes are already bothering me so I better go make the best of the next half hour. I am trying to get off the computer as much as possible after work and into bed around 10PM. I really need to regain control of my mornings and what time I wake up. It's pretty sad that it requires 3 alarms to get me up...

Getting Back What I Lost

Posted by BadReligion Sun, 15 Feb 2009 01:52:00 GMT

Its cold and snowing outside, with the Hatton vs Pacquiao fight just on the horizon and warm weather around the corner the fire is burning inside me again. I have to go run today, and I just can't wait until its warm enough to put my heavy bag back up. Shadowboxing and working out at the local gym just isn't enough anymore. There are no heavy bags, speed bags, sparring sessions. It is too clean and just can not provide the same environment as a boxing gym. There is nothing like it, the trash talk, the fight just nothing that can compare. Enough talk, I'm going to go suit up and hit the road. I'm going to try to wrap my left ankle and see if that helps out. It has still been bothering me, and I probably shouldn't be running on it but whatever. I'm thinking the damage has been done and is permanent so I think I'll just go with it. I think Kelly Pavlik has a fight coming up as well, which also has me pumped. Sean

Pacman vs Pretty Boy

Posted by BadReligion Sun, 01 Feb 2009 14:35:00 GMT

I can’t find the words to say how excited I would be to see Manny Paqcuiao vs Floyd Mayweather. Although I have tremendous respect for Mayweather’s skill, speed and ring intelligence I have never liked him. For one he has put ass whippings on too many of my favorite fighters. I think the Pacman is Mayweather’s greatest threat right now. Not to belittle Mayweather’s match ups but none of his opponents have been as well rounded as the Pacman. Pacquiao has speed, power, counter-punching and just about everything but the kitchen sink in his arsenal. The Pacman has most definitely earned his chance at bringing down what I feel is the greatest pound-for-pound fighter in boxing at this time. Whether or not that will happen is unknown. Here is a highlight reel of the Pacman.

Again I am stricken by Mayweather’s abilities, he has earned his status, but personally I have seen enough of his showboating and cocky attitude. I heavily weight my opinion on fighters and all athletes by their morals and attitude inside as well as outside of the ring.

Missing Stress Relief

Posted by BadReligion Thu, 11 Dec 2008 10:27:00 GMT

Once again its been sometime since my last blog. Between the website move, work and website updates I haven’t got around to writing. I did just upload most of the photos that were up though.

As of the moment things are pretty much the same. Although, that will soon change and I will be carrying a much heavier load. I recently bought new music, an album titled Finding Forever by Common, which is a rap-jazz, sort of story telling. I really like the album, I believe it is a best of Common, so it includes some of his older material which I seem to like better.

So I’ve only made it into December and I already miss having my heavy bag in the garage. I’m in desperate need of a brutal heavy bag session, or better yet a good sparring session. Shadowboxing doesn’t do much for me and I honestly have never done enough of it. I remember years ago in the gym Hasaan would always give me a rough time about shadowboxing. He was such a riot, another friend from the gym I’ll never forget. Hopefully I decide to go to Akron to finish school and I can revisit my past there at Good Shephards boxing gym.

I need to wrap this one up, I need to get to sleep at a decent time tonight. I have a long day tomorrow including Christmas shopping. I think I might go get a bowl of cereal and then some ice-cream, watch a movie and go to sleep. After of course I slip in my usual dose of exercise, call me an addict…whatever.

Feel like death!

Posted by BadReligion Sat, 06 Dec 2008 12:10:00 GMT

The title says it all! Please excuse any typos and neglect of: proper english, formatting or anything you would expect in a decent writing. It is 6:27AM and I feel like I am about to keel over. On a lighter note I have made a bit of overhaul for the better on the site. Please do comment and let me know your thoughts. Don’t hold back I’m a programmer not a designer and I’m known for having thick skin so you won’t hurt my feelings.

Aside from hanging out and watching the free UFC with my friends, tonight sort of sucked. I was anticipating the Pavlik vs. Hopkins fight for weeks now and was no less than unprepared. None of the usual spots around town were ordering the event! Neither myself or anyone I know were going to order the event. Then Pavlik lost to polish off the night. Not that I’m dissatisfied to see Hopkins win, I am also a huge fan of Hopkins…he’s just not from Ohio!!! I still look forward to watching the fight for FREE next week! I think it will be re-aired on HBO but I could be wrong about the HBO part.

I did have a good workout today. I don’t know how far I ran but I’d estimate a good 3 miles. I expect my shins to be throbbing tomorrow. The inner side of my left ankle has also been giving me problems and I haven’t been able to shake that yet either. Hopefully I’ll get some shoe inserts and my running form straightened out so I can run further and more often soon.

I’m just going to go to bed now, as I forsee a very short day tomorrow as far as being awake and competent. Then Monday morning MORE PROGRAMMING wooooooohoooo!

Going to go pass out
